It appears as a dark brown liquid with an aromatic odor, insoluble in water, and less dense than water. It has a flash point between 140 175°F and may irritate skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. It can be toxic by ingestion, inhalation, and skin absorption. It is a clear, colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with a mild, oily, sweet, slightly floral odor reminiscent of rose and a sweet, fatty-floral taste with a fruity note. It is soluble in 720 times water and miscible in most organic solvents.
